Chapter With a Heart ... dedicated to our community.
Within the Texas CRS is our Chapter with a Heart, established solely to help contribute to charitable organizations throughout our community. For the past three years we have been involved with the Warrior and Family Support Center at Ft. Sam Houston. Our objective has been to help keep the center's pantry full and to support our wounded warriors and the families who care for them.
Each year we host a fun evening for Chapter members, guests and several of our warriors and their families. Usually held in July, the evening is full of food, fun and dancing. Silent and live auctions are also part of the festivities. Items donated often include gift cards, spa treatments, dinners at local restaurants and even flat screen TVs and plane tours. Our success has grown as the community discovers the need for food, diapers and basic essentials within the center.
In addition to our continued growth of contributions with the Wounded Warrior fund raiser we are also currently seeking donations for SAMM Ministries, another very worthy charitable organization. SAMM's mission is to help the homeless attain self sufficiency. We are showing our support through a variety of activities. In February we collected over 300 pairs of new socks ("Socks with a Cause") which coinsided with SAMM's 5 K Fundraiser. In April we will host "Cleaning Out for Others" where we will be spring cleaning our closets to fill a delivery truck with donations.
